Antioxidants on a Supplement Label: What the Icon Does and Does Not Show

Quick answer

Antioxidants supplement claims describe a type of ingredient, not a result in a person. The Reviralis bottle shows an antioxidants icon, but the label states no outcome and no study has tested the product. Vitamin C is 125 mg and vitamin E 27 mg per serving. Those amounts are printed, while the effect is not.

The icon01

What does an antioxidants icon on a label mean?

It means the maker links the product with ingredients called antioxidants. It does not mean any person was tested, and it does not state a result.

The label does not say which of the 40 names the icon refers to. Vitamins C and E, beta carotene and selenium are often described this way, and so are plant extracts such as green tea and grape seed. That is our reading, not the label's.

The key point is simple: a category is not an outcome. Calling a nutrient an antioxidant says what it is, not what it does in your body.

What is printed02

Which Reviralis lines are usually called antioxidants?

Four printed vitamin and mineral lines are often called antioxidants, and several blend names are plant extracts with the same label. Only the four lines carry amounts.

Label lines often grouped as antioxidants (per 2 capsules)
LinePrinted amountDaily Value
Vitamin C125 mg139%
Vitamin E27 mg180%
Vitamin A (as beta carotene)720 mcg RAE80%
Selenium50 mcg91%
Green tea, grape seed, bilberry, olive leafNot printedNone

A Daily Value above 100% is a share of a daily reference, not a sign of benefit or danger. The Supplement Facts page shows every line.

The research03

What did research on antioxidant pills find?

The sources behind this site do not show a general benefit. They show nutrient-specific facts and some cautions.

For vitamin C, regular intake did not significantly cut colds in the general population (NIH ODS, Vitamin C). For beta carotene, an increased risk was seen in smokers taking 20 to 30 mg a day (NIH ODS, Vitamin A). Reviralis prints 720 mcg RAE, which at the usual 2 to 1 conversion is about 1.4 mg of beta carotene, far below that range. We state it as a size comparison only, not as a safety statement. Smokers can ask a clinician.

We found no source on antioxidant pills and herpes. Herpes has no cure, prescribed antivirals are the proven care, and Reviralis is not an antiviral.

How to judge04

How do you judge an antioxidant claim?

Ask what was measured, in whom, and at what amount. If an answer is missing, the claim is a category label, not a finding.

  • Is an outcome named, such as a blood level or a symptom?
  • Was the same amount tested in people?
  • Does the label print that amount?

The same test for the sales page lines is in the claims review, and the five-icon wording is covered with Wholebody Wellness.

FAQ05

Reviralis questions people ask

Do antioxidant supplements prevent disease?

No source behind this site shows that for Reviralis or its ingredients. A nutrient being an antioxidant describes what it is, not a proven result. A supplement marketed to prevent a disease would be treated as a drug (FDA, Questions and Answers on Dietary Supplements).

Is more vitamin C better?

Not by that rule. Regular vitamin C intake did not significantly cut colds in the general population (NIH ODS, Vitamin C). The Reviralis amount is 125 mg per serving, about 6% of the 2,000 mg adult upper limit.

Does the antioxidants icon mean the blend is strong?

No. The icon says nothing about amounts. Blend names have no printed amounts, and the arithmetic gives only ceilings, such as at most 66.1 mg for grape seed extract.

Can antioxidants interact with medicines?

Some can. Vitamin E may matter with warfarin (NIH ODS, Vitamin E), and bilberry with blood thinners (MSK About Herbs, Bilberry Fruit). The label warns about blood thinners and other medicines, so show it to a pharmacist before you start.
