Supplements and medicines
Supplement Drug Interactions: Antidepressants, Blood Thinners and More
Supplement drug interactions are real, and a label cannot list them all. Reviralis tells anyone on antidepressants, blood thinners or nerve or heart medicines to ask a provider first. Vitamin E, bilberry and licorice can matter with blood thinners, and licorice with blood-pressure medicine. Keep any prescribed antiviral and ask a pharmacist.

The basics01
Can supplements interact with medications?
Yes. A supplement can raise or lower the effect of a medicine, add to its side effects or change how the body absorbs it. A label cannot list every case.
The Reviralis label says to consult a healthcare provider if you are pregnant or nursing, take a medication or have a medical condition. It also names antidepressants, blood thinners and medicines affecting the nervous or cardiovascular system. It is not a complete list, so a pharmacist who sees all your medicines is the best check.
If you take a prescribed antiviral for herpes, keep taking it. Nothing in this guide is a reason to change a prescription. Reviralis is not an antiviral.
Where to look02
Which Reviralis ingredients matter with which medicines?
The names to watch are vitamin E, bilberry, licorice, bacopa, green tea extract and the minerals. Which medicine you take decides which one matters.
No study tested the finished capsule with any drug. The notes below come from reference pages on single ingredients, and the blend's amounts are not printed.
| Medicine type | Label name to ask about | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Blood thinners | Vitamin E 27 mg, bilberry, licorice, DHA, grapefruit seed extract | Vitamin E and warfarin (NIH ODS, Vitamin E); bilberry with warfarin, aspirin, NSAIDs (MSK About Herbs, Bilberry Fruit); high-dose DHA bleeding (NIH ODS, Omega-3 Fatty Acids) |
| Thyroid medicine | Bacopa, chromium, biotin | Bacopa may alter thyroid hormone (Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation, Bacopa monnieri); chromium may lower levothyroxine absorption (NIH ODS, Chromium) |
| Blood pressure, diuretics, heart | Licorice, green tea extract, olive leaf, magnesium | Licorice can raise blood pressure (NCCIH, Licorice Root) (MSK About Herbs, Licorice); green tea lowers nadolol levels (NCCIH, Green Tea) |
| Nerve and brain medicine | Phosphatidylserine, bacopa, DMAE | May weaken anticholinergics (Cleveland Clinic, Phosphatidylserine); DMAE and seizure history (EBSCO Research Starters, DMAE) |
| Diabetes medicine | Chromium, niacin, licorice, olive leaf | Chromium with insulin or metformin (NIH ODS, Chromium); niacin raises glucose (NIH ODS, Niacin) |
| Some antibiotics | Zinc, magnesium | They can bind quinolones and tetracyclines (NIH ODS, Zinc) (NIH ODS, Magnesium) |
Antidepressants03
Can you take supplements with antidepressants?
Ask first. The label lists antidepressants among the medicines that need a provider's advice, and we found no source that settles the question for these ingredients.
We found no cited source that documents an interaction for DMAE, GABA, tyrosine or bacopa with antidepressants. One source says licorice may add to the activity of MAOIs, with clinical relevance not known (MSK About Herbs, Licorice). An unknown risk is still a reason to ask, not a green light.
Do not stop an antidepressant on your own for any reason. A pharmacist can review the whole list.
Blood thinners04
Can you take supplements with blood thinners?
Several names on the Reviralis label are on the usual watch list, so a person on a blood thinner needs a clinician's advice before starting.
Vitamin E 27 mg per serving is 180% of the Daily Value, and vitamin E interacts with warfarin (NIH ODS, Vitamin E). Bilberry may raise bleeding risk with warfarin, aspirin and NSAIDs (MSK About Herbs, Bilberry Fruit). A case report tied an INR of 7.9 to a grapefruit seed product in a person taking warfarin (Avula 2007, Synthetic Disinfectants in Grapefruit Seed Extract (Pharmazie)). DHA at high doses has a bleeding concern, though the blend caps it at 41.4 mg here (NIH ODS, Omega-3 Fatty Acids).
The cap is arithmetic from the label order, not a measured amount. Your clinician may want your INR checked.

What about thyroid, heart, diabetes and seizure medicines?
Each has at least one cautionary note in the sources we read.
- Thyroid: bacopa may alter thyroid hormone, and chromium may reduce levothyroxine absorption (Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation, Bacopa monnieri) (NIH ODS, Chromium).
- Heart and blood pressure: licorice can raise blood pressure and lower potassium (NCCIH, Licorice Root), and magnesium can interact with some diuretics (NIH ODS, Magnesium).
- Diabetes: chromium, niacin, licorice and olive leaf all have glucose-related notes (NIH ODS, Niacin) (NIH ODS, Chromium) (MSK About Herbs, Olive Leaf).
- Seizures: DMAE comes with a seizure warning (EBSCO Research Starters, DMAE), vitamin B6 can interact with phenytoin (NIH ODS, Vitamin B6), and folate with anticonvulsants (NIH ODS, Folate).
The label also tells anyone with a history of seizures to ask first.

How do you check Reviralis against your multivitamin?
Type the amounts on your other product into the checker. It adds the Reviralis label amounts and compares each total with the adult upper limit.
- Vitamin C125 mg from Reviralis
6.2% of the 2,000 mg adult upper limit.
- Vitamin E27 mg from Reviralis
2.7% of the 1,000 mg adult upper limit.
- Niacin12.5 mg from Reviralis
35.7% of the 35 mg adult upper limit.
- Vitamin B612 mg from Reviralis
12.0% of the 100 mg adult upper limit.
- Folic acid400 mcg from Reviralis
40.0% of the 1,000 mcg adult upper limit.
- Iron1 mg from Reviralis
2.2% of the 45 mg adult upper limit.
- Zinc10 mg from Reviralis
25.0% of the 40 mg adult upper limit.
- Selenium50 mcg from Reviralis
12.5% of the 400 mcg adult upper limit.
- Copper0.052 mg from Reviralis
0.5% of the 10 mg adult upper limit.
Type any amounts from your other products. The bars show each total as a share of the adult upper limit.
Upper limits are the adult tolerable upper intake levels from NIH (NIH ODS, Zinc) (NIH ODS, Vitamin C) (NASEM 2019, DRI Tolerable Upper Intake Levels for Elements) (NIH ODS, Vitamin B6) (NIH ODS, Folate) (NIH ODS, Vitamin E) (NIH ODS, Niacin) (NIH ODS, Magnesium); they apply to nutrients from supplements, and a limit is a ceiling for healthy adults, not a target. A checking aid, not medical advice.
Upper limits come from NIH fact sheets (NASEM 2019, DRI Tolerable Upper Intake Levels for Elements). The checker covers nine nutrients and no medicines.

FAQ08
Supplements and medicines: common questions
Do I need to tell my doctor I take a supplement?
Yes. Tell your clinician and pharmacist about every supplement, since some change how medicines work. The Reviralis label itself asks anyone who takes a medication to consult a healthcare provider first.
Can I take Reviralis with warfarin?
Ask your clinician first. The label contains vitamin E and bilberry, and the sources link both to warfarin or bleeding. The exact amount of bilberry is not printed because it sits in a blend.
Is it safe to combine Reviralis and an antidepressant?
We cannot say it is safe. The label names antidepressants among medicines needing a provider's advice. We found no source settling the question, and licorice has a possible MAOI note of unknown relevance.
Can supplements affect thyroid medicine?
Some can. Bacopa may alter thyroid hormone, and chromium may reduce levothyroxine absorption. Biotin can also distort thyroid blood tests at high doses. Tell the clinician who reads your tests.
How far apart should I take zinc and antibiotics?
Zinc and magnesium can bind quinolone and tetracycline antibiotics. The NIH sources advise separating them, often by 2 hours before or 4 to 6 hours after. Ask your pharmacist for your antibiotic.
Does Reviralis interact with herpes antivirals?
We found no source on that. Reviralis is not an antiviral and does not replace one. Keep your prescription and ask a pharmacist to check your full list before you add any supplement.
