Four trace-mineral lines
Zinc 10 mg, Selenium 50 mcg, Copper and Iron in Reviralis: Amounts and Zinc-Copper Balance
Zinc 10 mg is the largest mineral amount in this Reviralis group, 91% of the Daily Value and 25% of the 40 mg adult upper limit. Selenium 50 mcg is 12.5% of its 400 mcg limit, copper 0.052 mg is 0.5% of 10 mg, and iron 1 mg is 2.2% of 45 mg. All four are per serving of two capsules.

The four lines01
How much zinc, selenium, copper and iron does Reviralis contain?
Reviralis prints zinc at 10 mg, selenium at 50 mcg, copper at 0.052 mg and iron at 1 mg per serving of two capsules. Each is a printed amount with a percent Daily Value, not part of the 661 mg blend.
Zinc and selenium both print 91% of the Daily Value. Copper and iron print 6% each. The label sets the serving at two capsules; the pack and sales page say one, and this site follows the label.
| Mineral | Label amount | Upper limit | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zinc | 10 mg | 40 mg | 25% |
| Selenium | 50 mcg | 400 mcg | 12.5% |
| Copper | 0.052 mg | 10 mg | 0.5% |
| Iron | 1 mg | 45 mg | 2.2% |
Limits come from the NIH zinc fact sheet and the Institute of Medicine table (NIH ODS, Zinc) (NASEM 2019, DRI Tolerable Upper Intake Levels for Elements).
Name by name02
What does each mineral line mean?
Each is a mineral the body needs in small amounts. A label amount says what a serving supplies, not what it does for you.
Zinc (as zinc oxide), 10 mg
The only herpes-specific zinc trial tested a cream on 46 people: sores lasted 5.0 days against 6.5 (Godfrey 2001, Topical Zinc Oxide/Glycine for Cold Sores (Altern Ther Health Med)). A cream is not a capsule, and NIH does not link oral zinc to herpes. Oral zinc for colds may shorten symptoms by about two days (NIH ODS, Zinc).
Selenium (as L-selenomethionine), 50 mcg
This is 12.5% of the 400 mcg limit. Too much selenium over time causes hair and nail changes (NASEM 2019, DRI Tolerable Upper Intake Levels for Elements). No cited source ties selenium to herpes.
Copper (as copper gluconate), 0.052 mg
This is a tiny amount, 0.5% of the 10 mg limit, with no caution at this level (NASEM 2019, DRI Tolerable Upper Intake Levels for Elements).
Iron (as ferrous fumarate), 1 mg
This is 6% of the Daily Value. Iron overdose is dangerous for children, so keep the bottle out of reach (NASEM 2019, DRI Tolerable Upper Intake Levels for Elements).
Zinc and copper03
Does zinc 10 mg throw off copper balance?
At 10 mg a day, the NIH zinc page does not point to a problem. It ties copper loss to long-term high zinc, and the label amount is a quarter of the 40 mg limit (NIH ODS, Zinc).
The label pairs 10 mg of zinc with 0.052 mg of copper, a ratio near 190 to 1. No cited source gives a target ratio, so we do not call it right or wrong. If you take another zinc product, add the amounts.

What if you also take a multivitamin with zinc?
Add both. Type the other product's amounts below; the checker totals them with the Reviralis label and compares each with the adult upper limit.
- Vitamin C125 mg from Reviralis
6.2% of the 2,000 mg adult upper limit.
- Vitamin E27 mg from Reviralis
2.7% of the 1,000 mg adult upper limit.
- Niacin12.5 mg from Reviralis
35.7% of the 35 mg adult upper limit.
- Vitamin B612 mg from Reviralis
12.0% of the 100 mg adult upper limit.
- Folic acid400 mcg from Reviralis
40.0% of the 1,000 mcg adult upper limit.
- Iron1 mg from Reviralis
2.2% of the 45 mg adult upper limit.
- Zinc10 mg from Reviralis
25.0% of the 40 mg adult upper limit.
- Selenium50 mcg from Reviralis
12.5% of the 400 mcg adult upper limit.
- Copper0.052 mg from Reviralis
0.5% of the 10 mg adult upper limit.
Type any amounts from your other products. The bars show each total as a share of the adult upper limit.
Upper limits are the adult tolerable upper intake levels from NIH (NIH ODS, Zinc) (NIH ODS, Vitamin C) (NASEM 2019, DRI Tolerable Upper Intake Levels for Elements) (NIH ODS, Vitamin B6) (NIH ODS, Folate) (NIH ODS, Vitamin E) (NIH ODS, Niacin) (NIH ODS, Magnesium); they apply to nutrients from supplements, and a limit is a ceiling for healthy adults, not a target. A checking aid, not medical advice.

Do zinc and selenium reinforce natural defenses?
No cited source shows that they prevent or reduce herpes outbreaks. They are nutrients, and "Reinforces your body's natural defenses" is the sales page's wording, not the label's.
The label can say what is in the capsule: zinc and selenium with percents. It cannot say they strengthen anything as fact. Herpes has no cure, and prescribed antivirals are the proven care (CDC, About Genital Herpes) (CDC, STI Treatment Guidelines: Herpes). Keep yours.
Zinc can bind quinolone and tetracycline antibiotics. Space them as your pharmacist advises (NIH ODS, Zinc).
Fact tables06
How do these four lines compare with research?
Each table sets a line beside the research amount, the strength of evidence and the main caution. Photos show the mineral source, not the capsule contents.

FAQ08
Questions about zinc, selenium, copper and iron in Reviralis
How much zinc is in Reviralis?
The label prints 10 mg of zinc as zinc oxide per serving of two capsules, which is 91% of the Daily Value. That is 25% of the 40 mg adult upper limit.
Does zinc help herpes?
The only herpes-specific zinc trial tested a cream in 46 people, not a capsule. NIH does not link oral zinc to herpes. No cited source shows that Reviralis prevents outbreaks.
Is 50 mcg of selenium too much?
No. It is 12.5% of the 400 mcg adult upper limit. Too much selenium over time causes hair and nail changes, but the label amount is well under that level.
Is there enough copper to balance the zinc?
The label prints 0.052 mg of copper beside 10 mg of zinc. NIH ties copper loss to long-term high zinc. No cited source sets a target ratio, so ask a clinician if you are unsure.
How much iron is in Reviralis?
The label prints 1 mg of iron as ferrous fumarate, 6% of the Daily Value and 2.2% of the 45 mg adult limit. Iron overdose is dangerous for children, so store the bottle out of reach.
Can I take Reviralis with antibiotics?
Ask a pharmacist first. Zinc can bind quinolone and tetracycline antibiotics and lower how much you absorb. Your pharmacist can give the spacing for your medicine.
