Vitamin C and Colds: Does Regular Vitamin C Help?
Vitamin C and colds have a modest, mixed record. Regular vitamin C intake did not significantly cut how many colds people in the general population caught, according to NIH. It says nothing about herpes. Reviralis Complete lists 125 mg of vitamin C per serving, 139% of the Daily Value.

The evidence01
Does vitamin C help prevent colds?
Not much. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements reports that regular vitamin C intake did not significantly reduce how many colds people in the general population got (NIH ODS, Vitamin C).
You need vitamin C to stay healthy. That does not mean extra vitamin C wards off colds.
Notice the word general. The finding concerns the general population, not every group, and we make no claims about other groups.
The page also says nothing about herpes. A result about colds is a result about colds.

How much vitamin C does Reviralis have?
Reviralis Complete lists 125 mg of vitamin C per serving of two capsules, which the label rates at 139% of the Daily Value.
The adult upper limit for vitamin C is 2,000 mg a day (NIH ODS, Vitamin C). So the label amount is about 6% of that limit. A percentage over 100 of the Daily Value is not the same as a risky dose.
| Item | Figure |
|---|---|
| Amount per serving (2 capsules) | 125 mg |
| Percent Daily Value on the label | 139% |
| Adult upper limit | 2,000 mg a day |
| Amount as share of the limit | About 6% |

How does vitamin C compare with the other label numbers?
Each of the 22 vitamin and mineral lines has its own percentage, and some are higher than vitamin C's 139%.
Vitamin B6 is at 706%, vitamin E at 180% and pantothenic acid at 240%. Calcium is at 2%. Toggle the rings between percent Daily Value and share of the upper limit.
Per serving (2 capsules). The Daily Value is the label reference amount; the upper limit is the most NIH says is safe for nearly all healthy adults from supplements (NIH ODS, Zinc) (NIH ODS, Vitamin C) (NASEM 2019, DRI Tolerable Upper Intake Levels for Elements) (NIH ODS, Vitamin B6) (NIH ODS, Folate) (NIH ODS, Vitamin E) (NIH ODS, Niacin) (NIH ODS, Magnesium). A vitamin line above 100% of the Daily Value is not a warning by itself; the upper limit is the line to watch. Rings are drawn from the label, not from a lab test.

Does vitamin C in a capsule support the immune system?
Vitamin C is a nutrient the body needs. A claim that a supplement reinforces your natural defenses is a different matter.
The sales page says the product "reinforces your body's natural defenses". We quote that and do not repeat it as fact. The label lists vitamin C, zinc and selenium, which are nutrients the body needs, and nothing in our sources shows that the capsule changes how often you get ill.
See the immune-support wording explained for how we read such phrases. For the wording rules, read structure and function claims explained.
Herpes05
Is vitamin C a herpes source?
We found no source showing that it does. The NIH vitamin C page says nothing about herpes (NIH ODS, Vitamin C).
Herpes has no cure, and prescription antivirals are the proven care (CDC, About Genital Herpes). Reviralis is not an antiviral and no source shows it prevents or reduces outbreaks. Keep any prescribed antiviral as directed, and never stop one to try a vitamin.
See a clinician for a weak immune system, a sore lasting over two weeks, frequent repeats, or any eye symptom. Ask a pharmacist how vitamin C fits with your medicines. NIH notes it can interact with niacin plus a statin (NIH ODS, Vitamin C).
FAQ06
Reviralis questions people ask
Does vitamin C prevent the common cold?
Regular vitamin C intake did not significantly cut the number of colds in the general population, according to NIH. It is still an essential nutrient. Washing hands and sleep matter for colds. Ask a clinician if you get colds often.
How much vitamin C is too much?
The adult upper limit is 2,000 mg a day from all sources, per the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements. The Reviralis label lists 125 mg per serving, about 6% of that limit. Add food and other supplements to your total.
What does 139% Daily Value mean for vitamin C?
It means the serving gives 139% of the reference amount for a day, not 139% of a safe limit. The upper limit is far higher, at 2,000 mg. A figure above 100% is not by itself a warning sign.
Can vitamin C help cold sores?
We found no source that links vitamin C to cold sores or other herpes outbreaks. The NIH page covers colds and general health. Prescription antivirals remain the proven care for repeat outbreaks.
Does Reviralis boost immunity?
No source we found shows that. The sales page says it reinforces natural defenses, and we quote that as the page's wording only. Reviralis lists nutrients, including vitamin C, and is not an antiviral.
