What Does Percent Daily Value Mean on a Supplement Label?
Percent Daily Value (%DV) compares the amount in one serving with a single reference amount used for labeling. It is not a recommended dose and not a safety limit. On the Reviralis Complete label, vitamin B6 prints 12 mg, or 706% DV, yet that is about 12% of the 100 mg adult upper limit.

The basic idea01
What does percent Daily Value actually measure?
Percent Daily Value measures how big the amount in one serving is next to a fixed reference amount for that nutrient. It is a yardstick for comparing bottles.
Q: Is the DV a dose to aim for? A: No. Q: Is it the most you can take? A: No. A separate figure, the tolerable upper intake level, is the ceiling for healthy adults, and a Supplement Facts panel does not print it.
The Reviralis serving is two capsules, so every percentage belongs to both capsules together.
Worked example02
Is a percent Daily Value over 100 dangerous?
No, a number over 100 is not a danger sign by itself. It says the serving holds more than the reference, and whether that matters depends on the upper limit.
Take vitamin B6. The label prints 12 mg and the Daily Value is 1.7 mg, so 12 divided by 1.7 gives 706%. The percentage looks large because the reference is small. The adult upper limit from supplements is 100 mg, so 12 mg is 12% of it (NIH ODS, Vitamin B6).
Reports of nerve damage involve B6 in the grams per day, and in some reports below 500 mg a day (NIH ODS, Vitamin B6). Those are far above 12 mg, but they show why the limit exists and why other B6 products count toward your total.
Side by side03
How do the label percentages compare with the upper limits?
The share of a limit is often very different from the percent DV, as three lines per two capsules show.
| Line | Label amount | % DV | Adult upper limit | Share of limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vitamin B6 | 12 mg | 706% | 100 mg | 12% |
| Vitamin E | 27 mg | 180% | 1,000 mg supplemental (NIH ODS, Vitamin E) | 2.7% |
| Niacin | 12.5 mg | 78% | 35 mg (NIH ODS, Niacin) | 36% |
Niacin, at only 78% DV, sits closer to its ceiling than vitamin E at 180%.

How can I see every percent Daily Value on the panel?
Switch the rings below from percent DV to share of the upper limit, and tap a ring for its numbers.
Per serving (2 capsules). The Daily Value is the label reference amount; the upper limit is the most NIH says is safe for nearly all healthy adults from supplements (NIH ODS, Zinc) (NIH ODS, Vitamin C) (NASEM 2019, DRI Tolerable Upper Intake Levels for Elements) (NIH ODS, Vitamin B6) (NIH ODS, Folate) (NIH ODS, Vitamin E) (NIH ODS, Niacin) (NIH ODS, Magnesium). A vitamin line above 100% of the Daily Value is not a warning by itself; the upper limit is the line to watch. Rings are drawn from the label, not from a lab test.
The 18 blend names have no percentage, only the 661 mg total. See the full supplement facts and our guide to proprietary blends.
Using the number05
How should I use percent Daily Value when I shop?
Use it to compare bottles and to spot lines your other products repeat, not to call a number safe or unsafe.
- Check the serving first: one capsule gives half of each number. See serving size versus capsule count.
- Add the same line from any multivitamin before judging a total.
- Set the total against the published limit, or ask a pharmacist.
These percentages say nothing about herpes, which has no cure; prescription antivirals are the proven care (CDC, About Genital Herpes). Reviralis is not an antiviral, and no source we found shows it prevents or reduces outbreaks. Keep any prescribed medicine and see a clinician.
FAQ06
Reviralis questions people ask
Does 100% Daily Value mean I need that amount?
No, 100% DV only means the serving equals the labeling reference amount. It is a yardstick for comparing products, not a personal target. How much you need depends on your diet, age and health, which is a question for a clinician or dietitian.
Is 706% of vitamin B6 too much?
Not by that number alone. The 706% comes from 12 mg set against a 1.7 mg reference, and the adult upper limit from supplements is 100 mg. Other B6 products would add to the total, so check them too.
Why do some lines have no percent Daily Value?
A percentage needs a reference amount, and not every ingredient has one. The Reviralis blend prints only a combined 661 mg. Members such as bacopa or green tea extract have no Daily Value to compare against.
Is the percent Daily Value the same as the upper limit?
No, they are separate numbers with separate jobs. The Daily Value is a labeling reference. The upper limit is the highest regular intake likely to cause no harm in most healthy adults. Only the first appears on the panel.
