What Does an FDA Registered Facility Mean on a Supplement?
An FDA registered facility is a site that has told the FDA it makes, packs or stores food, which includes supplements. Registration is a filing, not an approval. It does not mean the FDA inspected the plant, tested the product or vouches for its quality. The Reviralis label prints no registration number.

The phrase01
What does FDA registered facility mean?
It means the site where a product is made, packed or stored has filed its details with the FDA, so the agency knows the site exists.
Facilities that handle food for people in the United States must register, and supplements count as food for this purpose. The filing lists the site and what it does. It is a notice sent to the agency. The FDA does not grade the plant for it.
Q: Is registration the same as approval? A: No. The FDA does not approve supplements before sale (FDA, Questions and Answers on Dietary Supplements), and it does not approve a site by accepting its filing.
The limits02
Does an FDA registered facility make a supplement safe?
No. Registration says where a product was made. It does not say how well it was made, or what is in the bottle.
A registered site can still be inspected, found short of the rules and told to fix them. A site that is not registered would be breaking the rule, but a registered one has only filed a form. The two groups look the same on a label that prints just the words.
| Sign | What it tells you | What it does not tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Facility registration | The site is known to the FDA | Quality, inspection results, product contents |
| Manufacturing practice (GMP) audit | A reviewer compared the site with the rules on a date | That every lot is the same as the audited one |
| Third-party lab test of a lot | Named tests on one lot gave stated results | That other lots match |
| Certificate of analysis | A lab report, if you can read the lab and lot | Anything, if it is only a code |
The Reviralis label03
Is the Reviralis facility FDA registered?
We cannot say. The Reviralis label prints no facility name, no registration number and no inspection date.
What it does print is "Made in the USA with globally sourced ingredients" and the distributor, Phyto Thrive Labs of Largo, Florida. A distributor and a maker are not always the same business, and the label does not tell them apart. The seller's lot and certificate references are seller references, not lab proof (Reviralis sales page).
If the phrase matters to you, write to the seller and ask three plain questions. Who makes the capsules? Is that site registered with the FDA? Can you share a manufacturing audit, with its date? Use the contact on the contact page, and keep the reply.
A sales line that says "made in an FDA registered facility" is a statement about a filing. It is not a statement about the contents of this bottle.

Why do supplement ads use FDA registered facility wording?
Because it sounds like a check, and buyers read an official word as a stamp of approval. The rule does not support that reading.
The FTC says health claims need competent evidence and that the overall impression of an ad counts, not only each word (FTC, Health Products Compliance Guidance). An ad that places "FDA" beside a product can leave an impression the facts do not back.
Reviralis is a dietary supplement and not an antiviral. No source we found shows that it prevents or reduces herpes outbreaks, and herpes has no cure. If a clinician prescribed an antiviral, keep taking it as directed. Facility wording says nothing on that question.

FAQ05
Reviralis questions people ask
Does the FDA inspect every registered facility?
No. Registration is a filing, and the FDA does not visit each site that files. It inspects some sites on a risk basis and may inspect after a complaint, so a registered site may never have been visited.
Is an FDA registered facility the same as approval by the FDA?
No. Registered means the site told the FDA it exists and what it does. Approved is a different step that does not apply to supplements, which the FDA does not approve before they are sold.
Where does Reviralis say it is made?
The label says Made in the USA with globally sourced ingredients and names Phyto Thrive Labs of Largo, Florida as distributor. It prints no manufacturing site or registration number, so ask the seller for those details.
How can a buyer check a facility claim?
Ask the seller for the maker's name and registration number, then ask for a dated manufacturing audit. A seller who has the documents can share them, and a reply that skips the question is worth noting.
